My wife purchased a Kenkel cracker over ten years ago. At the time I thought $75 was too much to pay for a nut cracker. But now I know that it’s worth paying more for a piece that will last a lifetime. We don’t take particularly good care of ours, but it’s just fine and cracking nuts like the day we bought it.
We originally bought it for black walnuts. It makes short work of them. Then I discovered hickory nuts. It’s one of the best crackers for hickory nuts there is. The little cup on the jaws protects the meat and it’s pretty easy to get large pieces and often halves.
